Which modules are available?

Foreign language acquisition

In the optional foreign language acquisition module, foreign languages from the range of foreign language courses offered by Goethe University can be credited. Language courses at foreign universities can also be taken and included in the degree program. Courses in German, English or your own native language cannot be credited.

Internship

The optional internship module offers an initial insight into professional linguistic practice. Relevant internships can be completed, for example, at a clinic with a speech therapy department or at an institution relevant to the field of language and law. Internships usually
last one month. They must be agreed upon with a lecturer at the institute before they begin.

Free Study

The optional module Free Study can include courses from Goethe University from other degree programs as well as courses from other universities. For example, this offers the opportunity to supplement compulsory courses in the area of the degree program with other linguistic courses, such as English or Romance studies, or to expand your own studies with relevant seminars in philosophy, computer science, law or psychology. Summer schools also make it possible to acquire CPs.

When do I start the optional module for free study or internship?

The optional module for free study should only be started when a certain specialization with a more pronounced professional interest is apparent in your own studies. The same applies to the optional module for internship, which also requires a certain specialization.

When do I start the optional module for foreign language acquisition?

In contrast, the optional module for foreign language acquisition has no specific requirements. It can be taken practically from the first semester. Several languages can also be chosen within this module. For a planned Erasmus stay abroad as part of your studies, it is advisable to choose the language of the desired host country.

How do I find language courses?

To search for language courses, the name of the language you are looking for should be entered into the university-wide search engine QIS/LSF. This will show whether an offer is available and what it consists of. The language courses offered by the Language Center, some of which are subject to a fee, can also be recognized in this module.
